Mackay is nestled at the foot of the Pioneer Valley and the region encompasses spectacular rainforests, vast hinterlands, breath-taking mountains, estuarine streams, perfect beaches, gorgeous islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Centrally located on the Queensland coast, approximately 800 air kilometres north of Brisbane and 700 kilometres south of Cairns, the Mackay City covers an enormous area of roughly 90,000 square kilometres.

The Mackay district is classified as a central Queensland region and includes the Mackay City, Mirani Shire, Sarina Shire, Broadsound Shire and Nebo Shire local government areas. Extending from the coast to inland areas like Glenden and Dysart and having the City of Mackay reaching north to the O’Connell River and south to Alligator Creek, the land area covered by the district is massive.

Mackay is also located only one and a quarter driving hours south of the popular holiday destination, Airlie Beach. With Airlie Beach having a gorgeous lagoon area and being the getaway to the magnificent Whitsunday Islands, it’s also a wonderful place to visit.
